Holiday food is full of traditional dishes that have been around for generations, so why not try something new. For your Independence Day celebration this year, my patriotic strawberries are not only delicious, but are perfectly themed for the 4th of July. Normally chocolate dipped strawberries are expensive to buy, but they are actually very easy to make and they store well, so you can make them in advance. A simple white chocolate coating and some blue sprinkles and you have strawberries that will have all your guests thinking you worked on them for hours. They are also a great dessert for a hot summer day. So along with the traditional hot dogs and hamburgers, show your independence with a patriotic treat!
Belle’s Patriotic Strawberries
30 small to medium size strawberries (washed and dried and stems left on)
1 (12 ounce) bag white chocolate baking chips
3 tablespoon blue sugar sprinkles
In a microwave safe bowl, place the baking chips and cook on defrost for 1 minute. Stir the chips and continue microwaving on defrost for 30 seconds until all the chips are melted. On a plate, spread the sugar evenly. Take a strawberry by the stem and dip it in the chocolate so that it covers about ¾ of the strawberry. Dip one side of the strawberry in the blue sprinkles and then place it sprinkle side up on the wax paper lined tray. Store the berries in a covered container in the fridge.
