An odd ingredient makes this treat extra special

Tales of the Dinner Belle

By Brenda Stanley

It’s no secret that I love the combination of sweet and salty.  I also love chocolate, so the mixture of some odd ingredients in my potato chip brownies actually produces a delicious treat with the flavors of all these plus a little crunch.  If you’ve put nuts into cookies or brownies than the idea of a salty crunch shouldn’t be completely strange.  When I tell people I add potato chips to brownies, they often think I’ve ruined their favorite treat, but the salty and crispy flavor of the chips is a wonderful little surprise.  I like to use the chips that have the ridges because they are crunchier and I’ve found a salted caramel chip that makes this brownie even more decadent.  They’re chewy, crunchy, sweet, and salty… and usually gone within minutes.

Belle’s Potato Chip Brownies

1 box fudge brownie mix

2 eggs

3 tablespoons water

½ cup oil

1 cup coarsely crushed potato chips

½ cup caramel chips (or chocolate chips)

Mix together the brownie mix, eggs, water, and oil.  Carefully fold in the chips and caramel chips.  Spread into a 9×11 inch baking pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.  Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.  Cool before cutting.
