Flakey and sweet apple turnovers that are so simple to make! The holiday season is the perfect time for sweets and treats, and my easy apple turnovers are so flakey and delicious they are always in demand. Apples are a fruit available year-round, so they are great for all types of cold weather dishes. These turnovers use refrigerated crescent roll dough, making them so quick and easy but also buttery and light. I often serve these as a dessert, but they are also a sweet addition to breakfast. Having family over for the holidays? You may want to make a double batch!
Belle’s Easy Apple Turnovers
2 apples (cored and sliced ½ inch thick)
2 tablespoons butter
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 can (8 oz.) refrigerated crescent roll dough or seamless dough sheet
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Glaze:
½ cup powdered sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
Milk
In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. In a fry pan, melt the butter. Add the apple slices cook over medium-high heat until the apples soften and begin to brown. Sprinkle with the cinnamon mixture and continue to cook until sugar has melted and started to caramelize. On a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper, unroll the crescent roll dough sheet, or if using the rolls, pinch together the seams to make one sheet. Cut into 4 to 8 rectangles- depending on how large you want your turnovers. Divide the apple mixture evenly and spoon onto one-half of each of the rectangles. Fold the dough over the apples and seal all the edges. Bake at 350 degrees for 16 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown. While the turnovers are cooling, mix together the powdered sugar and vanilla and just enough milk to make a glaze. When the turnovers are completely cooled and drizzle with the glaze.
