Belle’s Flakey Fruit Pastry

A pastry that looks as fancy as it tastes! There’s something special about a pastry that looks as fancy as it tastes but comes together with ease. I first made this flaky fruit pastry for my husband’s coffee treat, and now people are asking for my secret recipe. You all know there are no secrets with my recipes. I’m an open book, even when they expose how easy they are. The magic here is the buttery pastry you buy in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. The rolled sheets of puff pastry or crescent roll dough are then layered with sweet jam and almond paste. A drizzle of glossy glaze gives it just the right touch of elegance. This treat proves you don’t need a special occasion for something special!

Belle’s Flakey Fruit Pastry

2 (13-ounce) sheets of puff pastry or crescent roll dough sheets

1 (8-ounce) package Almond paste

1 cup any flavor jam

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon almond extract

Milk to thin

On a parchment-lined baking sheet, unroll one sheet of dough. Spread the jam evenly, then place 1/4-inch slices of the Almond paste evenly over the top. Place the other sheet of dough on top and seal the edges. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Let cool completely. In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar with the almond extract and just enough milk to make a glaze. Drizzle this over the top of the pastry. Slice into squares or triangles.
