A traditional pork chop dish done a bit differently! Pork chops and applesauce is a dish that has been a staple for decades, and that’s why my baked pork chops and apples is a great way to enjoy the same flavor combination in a slightly different way. The chops are seared to hold in moisture, and then cooked with savory onions, sweet apples, and a delicious sauce. The dish is hearty and flavorful and is ready in under thirty minutes. It’s a traditional dish done differently, but one that the entire family will enjoy.
Belle’s Baked Pork Chops and Apples
4 pork chops – on the bone, about 1-inch thick
4 tablespoons butter, divided
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
1 onion, sliced
2 apples – sliced
½ cup chicken stock
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons of dried rosemary
2 teaspoons of dried thyme
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Melt one tablespoon of butter. Sear the pork chops just until browned on all sides. Season with salt and pepper. Remove the chops to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm. In the same pan, melt the rest of the butter. Add the onions and sauté for a couple of minutes. Add the apples and cook for another couple of minutes. Add the broth, brown sugar, rosemary, and thyme, and cook until everything is hot. Place this into a 9 by 13-inch baking dish. Top with the chops. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chops reaches 165 degrees.
