Belle’s Crispy Finger Steaks

Crispy, juicy fingers of steak are so flavorful they’ll quickly become a family favorite! I’ve written often about my husband’s love of cookies, but if you ask him which of my recipes he enjoys most, there’s a good chance my finger steaks will be at the top of his list. These slightly spicy strips of tender steak are full of flavor, and the crispy coating is so delicious. A dusting of flour mixed with Cajun seasoning is just the right amount of spice and herbs, and the Worcestershire sauce mixed into the egg gives a savory and smokiness. I used cubed steak so they are extra tender, and by putting the finger steaks in a warm oven after frying, they stay warm so I can make these for a crowd or just for my husband, who can’t seem to get enough of them. Serve with barbeque sauce, ranch dressing, or whatever sauce is your favorite, but they’re delicious on their own, too. If you’re looking for a tried and true favorite dish, these finger steaks are hard to beat.

Belle’s Crispy Finger Steaks

2 pounds cube steaks
1 ½ cups flour
3 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
2 teaspoons baking powder
¾ cup milk
3 large eggs
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Oil for frying

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Pat the cube steak thoroughly dry with paper towels. Then, cut the steaks into strips approximately 1 to 2 inches wide and 3 to 4 inches long. In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, Cajun seasoning, and baking powder. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and Worcestershire sauce. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add enough oil to fill the skillet 1/4 inch deep. Once the oil is between 350-375 degrees F, dip 6-8 steak strips in the flour mixture. Shake them off, then dunk the strips in the egg mixture. Shake off the drippings, then dunk back in the flour mixture. Shake off all excess flour. Fry the strips in the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes per side. Use tongs to move the steak fingers to a paper towel-lined baking sheet. Add additional oil to the skillet if needed, and repeat with the remaining steak strips. Place the finished strips in the oven to keep warm. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, if desired.
